Deformed Nose
What to do about a Deformed Nose
If you feel you have a deformed nose, that can really change how you interact with the world. Unlike other areas of our bodies, we can’t really hide our noses under clothing. Every time we meet someone, it is right there, in the middle of our face.
So what can you do about a deformed nose?
Rethinking your Deformed Nose
The most obvious answer to this dilemma, of course, is rhinoplasty. Plastic surgery has reached a state now where they can fix most any physical problem. Before you start booking you appointment and getting ready to go under the knife, however, you should consider other alternatives.
First, you should analyze whether your nose is not fine the way it currently is. You may think when you look in the mirror, that your nose looks horribly large or crooked on your face. What you need to consider, however, is that most other people in the world don’t see you the way you see yourself.
It is like your voice when you record it on a tape recorder. The way you perceive it from your own voice’s vantage point is markedly different from the ways it sound on a recording. Similarly, what may seem like horribly misshapen nostrils or like a large bump protruding from the ridge of your nose, may actually turn out not to be that big of a deal to others.
Therefore, the first step to evaluating whether you really need to take further steps should be evaluating whether your nose really is “deformed.” You should do this before you go in to a plastic surgeon to get things evaluated. Remember that unlike a regular doctor whose main purpose it is to heal, the plastic surgeon is more properly considered a part of the cosmetics industry rather than the medical industry. Therefore, you should expect that the plastic surgeon would find several things about your nose and face that they believe they can “improve.”
In other words, you should not take the surgeon’s evaluation as objective. Instead, you should ask your closest friends and family members what they think of your nose—and ask them to be as objective as possible. If they tell you that your nose needs work, then it is probably true that you could use some work.
Measures Short of Surgery
If you only have a small problem, like a blemish or slight birthmark, you might consider other cosmetic ways of deemphasizing this key feature of your face. You can do this in several different ways. If you have an uneven nose, you can place some foundation on your nose to make it seem less craggy. You can also cover up discolorations with skin colored make up.
If the matter is more one of size or crookedness, you might be able to keep people from focusing on it by proper shading, and sometimes by hiding it in plain sight, under some cool sunglasses.
If your nose is truly misshapen, then your insurance might cover surgery. However, very few insurance policies cover any kind of plastic surgery, so you will likely have to raise your own money if you want to have such an elective surgery.
Rhinoplasty
If you really feel you need to have your nose reshaped surgically, then you should make an appointment to see a plastic surgeon and discuss your options. Plastic surgery is effective in making women look younger and more vibrant.
Before you set foot in your plastic surgeon’s office, you should already have informed yourself about as much of the procedure as possible. You should a have a good sense of going rate for rhinoplasties and about how much one costs.
You should also find out about post-operative recovery. One of the hardest parts of getting your nose done is the recovery period. In addition, be sure to ask your surgeon how much experience he has and make sure that you get all of your questions answered before moving on.
Remember that plastic surgery is still surgery and you should respect it as such.
